The Official Register of Color Names
Notice: We have updated our Privacy Policy. The updated version (v2.0) is effective from July 11, 2026.

Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy covers color-register.org — The Official Register of Color Names (ORCN Register), a private registry of color names. It explains what personal data we collect when you visit the Register, and how we use it.

Purchases (color naming) happen on our store site, store.color-register.org, which has its own Privacy Policy. If you place an order, that policy applies to your order data.

2. Data we collect automatically

Server log files

Our web server automatically records technical data transmitted by your browser: browser type and version, operating system, referrer URL, time of the request, and IP address. We use these logs to keep the site secure and functioning (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Log data is not combined with other data sources and is deleted on a rolling basis.

Cookies

We use cookies that are necessary for the site to function, and — with your consent where required — cookies set by Google for advertising and analytics (see sections 3 and 4). You can configure your browser to refuse or delete cookies; some features may then not work.

3. Advertising — Google AdSense

This site displays ads via Google AdSense (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads and, where permitted, to personalize them based on your visits to this and other websites.

4. Analytics — Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) to understand how visitors use the site. GA4 does not log or store full IP addresses. Reports are aggregated and do not identify you personally. Legal basis: consent / legitimate interest in improving the site (Art. 6(1)(a)/(f) GDPR). You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

5. Newsletter

If you subscribe to our updates, your email address is processed by follow.it to deliver the newsletter. We use it only for this purpose and do not pass it to anyone else. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email. Legal basis: consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). See the follow.it privacy policy.

6. Quizzes and interactive features

Our quizzes and similar fun features run in your browser and do not require registration; we do not store personal data from them.

7. Public register data

The Register is a public database. Registered Color Names and any Personal Messages submitted with them are published on the color’s dedicated page, as described in our Terms and Conditions and chosen by the customer at the time of registration.

8. International transfers

Google services may transfer data to the United States. Google LLC is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework; transfers are additionally safeguarded by Standard Contractual Clauses.

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, and receive a copy of your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time with future effect. You may also lodge a complaint with your data protection supervisory authority. To exercise any right, use our contact form.

10. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will display a prominent notice above this policy for 30 days. The current version and its effective date are always shown below.
